I am a machine learning researcher working on applied AI for the sciences. I take on problems where a model has to be right for a reason, not just on average, and where the people using it need to be able to check what it did.
That has run through self-supervised models of scientific signals, retrieval over regulated text, and language systems built for readers who act on what they read. I work best next to domain researchers. I bring the modeling, they bring the science, and the problems worth solving live where those meet.
I am based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I teach computer science at Inver Hills Community College. I hold an M.S. in Computer Science from California State University, Chico.
